Review: John Frieda Three Day Straight

I'd heard some really good things about this product so I was so happy when I saw it for a good price, and was curious to see if it actually worked as well as it claimed to:

"John Frieda Frizz Ease Spray transforms curly, frizzy hair into a straight, smooth style that lasts up to 3 days.
Designed to work with your hair straighteners, this weightless spray with heat protection blocks out frizz as you straighten. A revolutionary blend of polymers with keratin protein wraps each strand, sealing in straight style for up to 3 days.
Keeps hair glossy, smooth and swinging with body
Safe for colour-treated and chemically-treated hair
Or until your next shampoo if less than 3 days."

Day One
Day Two
Day Three
I was happy with the results, because my natural hair is like a crazy mane! This was a big change, and it felt soft and silky and styled all three days. However, as you can see in Day Three, some of my natural waves started fighting back, but did remain calm and silky.

The product itself was easy to use, I used it after my Mega Shampoo and Conditioner from Aussie, with John Freida Hair Serum on my hair when wet, and then generously sprayed the product from root to tip and combed through.

One big negative for me is how sticky the formula is, while it works wonders and I am really happy with the outcome, at this point my hair feels like I've sprayed it with golden syrup. This CANNOT be good for your hair, and if I had even slightly oily or grease prone hair I would worry how it would effect it.

However, when you apply heat, this texture disappears from your hair leaving it silky smooth. I roughly blow dried it and used my ever faithful GHDs from about 5 years ago!

I would even say it works to combat frizz; even if your curls do return (if you're out in drizzley rain or in very humid atmosphere) it does remain a lot calmer and easier to control. I have very knot prone hair and this product made my hair very manageable between the washes - no knots at all!

Overall I'm really happy with the results, it's a great product and it made a massive difference to my hair! I would say I would repurchase this but it seems to be lasting really well so I won't need to for quite a long while

Here's a cute picture of my lovely baby niece learning to walk on her first birthday; she liked my hair on day 2 and kept pulling it >.<

Heart Nails and Sophee's Giveaway!

I had my first dabble into nail art today! It took a while and it isn't perfect but I had loads of fun and hopefully I'll get better!

HEARTS HEARTS HEARTS HEARTS!
I thought this would be cute and not terribly difficult to draw. Hopefully it'll last a while!
I used my Maybelline Lilac nailpolish (from a haul) and some very old 17 red nailpolish. I drew the hearts out on sellotape with a cocktail stick before moving them with tweezers to my nails (some of them are a little bit wonky so don't look too close :P).

Also, I'm really excited about a giveaway from a blog that I only found recently but I keep checking now: Sophee - Make up, Fashion and Everything in Between. She's seems like such a lovely girl with loads of good insights :)
Anyway, I really love the purse she's giving away at the moment - it's such a vibrant colour and looks so grown up and classy. ^.^

Laid-back Summer Hair

I'm pretty lazy when it comes to my hair, but when it comes to summer I love to twist and braid it to get it out of my face so I don't get too hot. Plaits also show off my highlights so I <3 them. These are the ones I've been using recently and they're super super easy as well! :)
Braids add a simple and sweet boho element to any outfit. I particularly like doing them with baggy or floral tops, with summer dresses, or on cold days with classic dark denim jeans.
This is probably one of my most used, a simple braid of the front my hair on one or both sides of my head. In this case both, pinned back so they meet in the middle at the back of my head! I feel all mermaidy :D It keeps the hair off my face but I don't have to put it up completely, making it look a bit softer for my faceshape. (I think having all my hair up doesn't suit me at all!)

^^ Close ups of the braids from each side :)  ^^

I've only just started doing this next one but so far I'm really liking it! The braids hold the hair out of my face, but it flows forward in a way that I really like :) The way I do it is to separate chunks of hair from above/behind my ears and pull them forward and tie them with a hair band so they're completely separate from the rest, then I put my hair up in a tight high ponytail and braid the chunks I've left out. I spray the front of my hair and plaits with light hold hair spray and smooth down a little to get rid of any fly-aways before bobby-pinning the plaits in place and letting my hair down.

This look feels all ballerina-y to me so I tried it with my hair up in a messy ballerina bun which I really like, but it does expose the bobby pins. I'm a messy person so I don't really mind that kind of thing personally.

This one is a chunky waterfall braid on one side of my head (the side with the most hair), and on the other side a simple twist to keep it out of my face. This one I would wear more with jumpers and perhaps to slightly dressier occasions because it feels a little bit more grown up.

close up of the braid
There are loads of great explanations of how to do a waterfall braid and I'd probably be a bit clumsy in my own explanation, so I recommend using the powers of Google if you're interested. I learnt from MeghanRosette on Youtube a billion years ago so maybe that would be worth a look :)

I thought a simple braid deserves a mention, because it's probably my most "worn" hair style. I like it with everything, it makes summer dresses more casual and looks cute and preppy with good jeans and a simple top. With my hair, the bits at the front fall forward which softens the look making it more wearable for me :)

This post has been really fun to do so I hope you like it!

P.S. Sorry about the differing quality of the photos in this post - I had a bit of a lighting epiphany half way through taking photos for this post so hopefully they'll get better from now on. I've also realized my camera is awful and makes moderate lighting look poor so looking into a new one in the future (when my funds allow)..

Little Haul

Since I've been home I've collected a few bits and pieces in terms of skincare, haircare and cosmetics. Nothing big and most of it picked up from offers, but everyone loves a good deal so I thought I'd share :)
For skincare I thought I'd experiment for the first time in about two years and try some new moisturisers, including a night cream!  I'm also going to get a new cleanser and change my skincare completely as sometimes my skin can look a little dull.

Before now I've been lazy and haven't really used one unless my skin needed extra help, but I've heard that it massively helps reduce future aging and I found one - Garnier Youthful Radiance Night cream - that does fight the signs of aging, but isn't too thick for my young skin as it is intended for people starting the fight against aging early! It was reduced in Morrisons UK for £6 and I've been using it for about a week now, and   I started getting compliments on my complexion pretty quickly! Someone didn't believe I wasn't wearing makeup - granted this was a clueless boy. However, my skin feels a lot more oily so I'll have to see how it goes!
I also picked out this Loreal Triple Active Day Light Moisturiser, which I only got today. It's specified towards dry and sensitive skin, but it's very perfumed so I'm going to be very cautious about it. Although it smells nice I just have super delicate skin.

I also picked up these three Frizz-Ease products for £10 at ASDA, a deal I really recommend having a look at. I got the 3 Day Straight Spray, the Hair Serum, and Shine Spray. These normally retail for £6.99, £6.29, and £5.59 so I made a saving of £8.87!! :D I'm excited to use all of these products!

I also recently started using Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation and so far I really like it. My Loreal Dream Lumi concealer ran out so I replaced it with this Maybelline alternative which I've seen used by a lot of people; however I still prefer the Loreal version - it's a bit creamier with nicer and easier to use packaging. Sometimes this gives out too much in one go.

And my favourite new thing was a present from my mummy, because Debenhams is her favourite shop. She doesn't usually buy me things, but she's 150% more likely to if it's from Debenhams.
So pretty... I like the stripes because it makes a traditional design a bit fresher and more summery :) It was in the sale from £35 to £25, plus there was a teeny stain on the back which meant we got an extra 10% off, and my mum had loyalty vouchers to get extra money off in the sale, so we got it for £20 (ish).

I've been building this stuff up for a while and haven't done any proper shopping in quite a while :( Hopefully soon

Healthy Food and Skin.

After a rather heavy reunion night out with friends, both myself and my best friend Sunny were feeling a bit worse for wear. Yesterday we had a lie in and a TV/bad food day, which definitely helped but left us and our skin feeling guilty. So we decided to have a healthy evening tonight! We indulged in some home-made face-masks and I thought I'd share with you how I made it and what my favourite ingredients are :-)
I used:
1 tbsp of completely natural yogurt,
1-1.5 tbsp of oats,
3 teaspoons of honey,
and 1 tbsp of unrefined brown sugar.
I've got really dry and very sensitive skin, and yogurt is really moisturizing so I was probably a bit more generous with the yogurt! Oatmeal is a all natural cleanser, and produces a moisturizing milk when it gets wet. Honey is good for healing! It disinfects and helps gets rid of scars, and I read somewhere that sugar is good for dry skin, but I'm not sure why. What I am sure about is that it's an exfoliator, as is salt, but a lot more gentle because it dissolves and all it's goodness goes into your skin! :D Salt is better for oily skin as it draws out excess moisture!

Using natural ingredients is so much better than using artificial chemically products, especially for my delicate skin! And you know exactly what's going in! You just have to be careful about getting your ingredients chemical free and unrefined.
Sunny has a completely different skin type which is more combination than mine and breakout prone, and all these ingredients work well for her too, because they're natural oils they're much less likely to clog pores but are still really moisturizing!

Sunny has a tasty honey face!

To carry on the healthy theme of the night we had yummy berries to stop us craving chocolate! YUM YUM YUM YUM YUM YUM!!!

PRESENTS

I've got some lovely presents from everyone for my birthday recently, made me feel very loved :) These are my favourite bits!My best friend (Sunny) got me the most gorgeous dress ever from Jack Wills, I love it so much! Trying to get my brother to get married so I have a good place for it's first outing!
It's a beautiful silky material and a flattering shape and colour! I LOVES IT SO MUCH.

My friend Lizzie gave me a few things and was really generous! She got my some really nice products from lush; a shower jelly and a scrub. The shower jelly was good in the alps, as it smelled really zingy and clean which felt amazing in a hot shower after falling in a freezing river! I'm so totally in love with the scrub, it smells really fresh and awakey :D I use it a lot now as I'm using a fake tanner to keep it even as I'm so unlucky with tanning products! They just don't like me! I also like that it has an option to make it more exfoliating if you use it on dry skin, or less exfoliating (but good skin/tan maintenance) if used like a normal shower product. I'd definitely repurchase the scrub again. :D

Lizzie also bought me a really pretty bracelet from Magnolia Silver that I'm now wearing with the rest of my arm-candy everyday. Pearls have always been my favourite and it's silver so my wrist won't go green :P

Lots of lovely things from lovely people!

Finally...

... I'm back! Sorry I took such a long break, I've been super super busy recently!
It was my birthday, I went on holiday, I moved house, went to the other side of the country for a big party and had an epic job hunt!

The holiday I went on was to the South Alps in France; what I have decided might be the most beautiful place in the world. It's green and mountainy and the water is bright  turquoise in the sunlight. It's boiling hot and had picturesque little houses everywhere, even half way up mountains. It reminded me of Heidi  >.<

I went to go white water kayaking because of the super fast water and beautiful surroundings. It was such an amazing experience and I was smiling even when I was swimming (It's not really "swimming".. more losing your boat and getting washed around a river :-P) .

This is me and my friend Hannah and Ana, feeling chirpy after a rescue and checking Ana's camera still works! (Ana's taking the photo)

As you can tell, kayaking kit is SUPERSEXY. Here are some more photos of me wearing it and some pretty views!

The group all smiling before a river and all upright at the end of one!

The group when we first arrived and saw this big beautiful view, I'm third on the left ( And we all have matching T-Shirts with nicknames on - we're so lame!

Pretty walk in the mountains and climbing on a rock :)

I know this isn't beauty or make-up based, and a camping holiday is probably the exact opposite, but I had so much fun I thought I'd share it; I'll be back on beauty soon!

Wishlist

Since I have no money, I've spent quite a lot of time pining online, and this is my official list of things i'm lusting over.

1.) Nars Laguna Bronzer. Just because I've heard so much about it! It seems perfect for me because I'm not too tanned but I've started using bronzers to add a bit of definition to my face and I think it's about time I invested in this since it's meant to be the best one!
2.) Real Techniques Core Collection (available from boots.com). Sammi from Beautycrush on YouTube talked about them and for four brushes they don't seem too expensive at £21.99 for all four. Plus I am severely lacking in decent make up brushes so again, it's about time I invested in some but not sure I can afford to kit myself out with Mac brushes unfortunately :(
3.) Rouge Caresse lipstick by Loreal Paris in Dating Coral. I already have Tempting Lilac and I am so so so impressed with the consistency and pigmentation. I saw a little bit about them online, and they came out at the same time as Revlon Lip Butters and were both advertised as a semi-sheer moisturising alternative to Lipstick. I decided to not believe the hype and do a genuine comparison in store and, for me, there was no competition - Rouge Caresse seems to me clearly better and I wants wants wants this coral colour so much. It is so gorgeous but it was sold out in my local boots for a while :(
4.) However, I do still want to give the Lip Butters a fair try, and perhaps they would be a good thing to have knocking about your bag as a tinted lip balm for beachy days or just those hot days where very little effort goes into make up. I'm a bit concerned that they streak and application is not very even, which was my main issue with them compared to Rouge Caresse, but as a pretty tinted lip balm I could see myself using some of the colours! I do think they have been overhyped though.. from what I've seen so far!
5.) A want a high low skirt so badly, ever since about two months ago I went shopping with a friend who was planning to buy one in black or pink (I think); I wandered off on my own and found one in the most gorgeous shade of mint green and exactly the right shape for me. I fell in love and so did she, but unfortunately it was only in big sizes and we're both little people :( so sad. I didn't want to buy just any one, so I'm keeping my eye out for a perfect one, and noticed this one of Topshop.com a couple of days ago!!! ** excited** I don't know how it will look in person, but I'm planning on popping in soon and seeing how long it is at the front and things. Fingers crossed it's flattering...!
6 +7.) Orly Cool Romance Collection. (Really pretty muted tones and a lovely mint green) and OPI New York City Ballet (greys, creams, lilac and a glittery number). Fell in love with both of them and want to get some better quality nail varnishes
8.)Naked 2 Palette, just because I love eyeshadows and doing dramatic make up for nights out, it would increase my range so I could do a few more different looks. I've also picked out a Mac quad in my head.. but hopefully I'll be able to do a post on that soon!

A few extras that I forgot to include in the photo... (oooopsy!)
Ruffley white lace shorts,
A (fake) Mulberry handbag
A job for the summer so I can buy all these things!!

Oh this really is just daydreams, but it was fun to put it all down on paper! If only I had some more money.
Sorry for the delay between posts, I broke my toe, had friends to stay and we were a lot busier/lazier than I expected AND got food poisoning. :( Sorry to neglect you!

New Hair :D!!

Just a quick post about my hair, I just got it redone so no more horrible roots from my last couple of posts! I've had it long and blonde for about 3 years now but before that it was a medium honey toned brown (but still very long). It took me about one and  half to two years to grow.. I know when i was 14 I cut it shoulder length and by the time I was 16 entering sixth form it was quite long already! About a year after that I dyed it blonde and i'm almost twenty now - but I'm not as good as I should be at going back regularly! ...... Shabby chic? *crosses fingers* >.< ooooopsie.
The front bits are a lot shorter which I thought would be good for summer so I could put my hair up and be cool but some little bits would fall down so it doesn't look as harsh! They used Kerastase Elixir on it and it feels so so silky, and blow dried it smooth and straight, usually I have a wavy mane!

<- No more roots!!

and it's still pretty long->

Overall I'm really happy with it :D

Mini Haul!

I decided seeing as I was home for the weekend to stock up on some of my favourite everyday products that I can't afford myself at university.

I got two deep conditioners (Re constructor and Luscious Long) and a shampoo (Miracle Moist) from Aussies; the deep conditioners are my favourite :-)

I then got a few luxuries, I needed a new clear nail varnish for using as a top coat, and while I was browsing the  nail varnishes I found the cutest lilac from Maybelline called Tempting Lilac

I really like it, plus it was only £3 reduced so I picked up the French Manicure colour for my mummy :)
I want to get a mint green and a coral soon because I really love cute pastel coloured nails but I'm determined to get Mint Candy Apple by Essie because I just loveeee that shade. If I find a drugstore alternative that I'm happy with I'll blog about it.

I also got a yummy raspberry milkshake flavoured exfoliator for fake tan purposes which smells like heaven. I always seem to be drawn to fruity scents a lot, if you are too you'll love the raspberry one, but if not you might prefer the Vanilla Creme Brulee flavoured one as that one was yummy as well! I used mine last night and it was good, not incredible as an exfoliator but okay and it smelled so goooooooooooood! Also it was only £1.50 from ASDA so it works very well for the price. I also got a fake tan I'm yet to try by Loreal which looks good to me :) I'll post about how it goes.

Then I got a couple of drugstore products that I've heard a lot about:
Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Ultimate Wear Concealer, in #1 Fair
and a Maybelline 24H Colour Tattoo in On and On Bronze (I think it's exactly the same shade as Bad to the Bronze in the US)

Night-Out Look

I've started using this for my going out look - it's a bit of a change because i always used to prefer to keep my eyes with very natural colours except my black eyeliner. For this, although for most people might seem quite natural, I used one of the darker shades in my Urban Decay Naked palette, Gunmetal. It is very dark, with shimmer and has undertones of blue. It's very blendable though so not too overwhelming. I avoided it for a while because I was scared so if you haven't tried it and have it then DO DO DO! It's not too opaque at all but works well in the crease.

These are all the products I used:

On my face I used:
Primed and Poreless by Benefit on my chin and other pore-ful areas like around my nose. Anything that was left I put on my cheeks on my cheeks for a smoother finish,
Loreal Paris Dream Lumi Highlighter/Concealer in Light under my eyes,
Chanel Vita Lumiere Foundation in B10,
Benefit Watts Up highlighter on my cheekbones and cupids bow,
Contoured with Mac Mineralise blush in A Little Bit of Sunshine,
Dandelion by Benefit blush quite liberally (it's like healthiness in powder form, can't recommend it enough)
Mac Well Dressed (a tiny bit on the apples of my cheeks)

On my eyes (okay here's where it gets a bit more complicated - I'm going to go into a little more detail because the eyes are the main focus of this look):
Urban Decay Primer Potion all over my lid and up to my brow bone and underneath,
Naked Palette - on the first third of my eye I put Sin, the second and third part Toasted, and then in the crease and outer corner Gunmetal. Then I went back and used Virgin in my inner corner and brow bone. I took each of the other three colours and used an angled brush underneath my eye to line.
Maybelline Liner Express eye liner with a small wing,
Naked Palette - Creep on a liner brush in bottom outer corner and over liquid eyeliner and a tiny bit of a fluffy brush on the outer corner.
Then I layered Loreal Paris Lash Architect 4D and Loreal Paris Volume Millions which work well for very dramatic lashes (maybe only for night time.. :-P )

I then put Loreal Rouge Caresse lipstick on moisturised lips in Tempting Lilac because it's a pretty pinky colour to put more emphasis on my eyes.
Sorry this post is so rambling! I know I'm not really talking to many people, but this was fun to do anyway ^.^

I had a fake tan accident the other day and got some exfoliator (to get rid of the accident) and a new type which I have a lot more faith in. I might pick up another and compare all three and do a review in a couple of weeks once I know what I think, that might be fun! :D
